NSSN 516: Teachers and school support staff force Tory U-turn!

January 5, 2021 in Bulletins

The NSSN sends all our supporters New Year greetings. We will continue to build support solidarity for workers and their unions taking action and to the increasing number of union reps and members being victimised by employers. 2021 has started with a bang, with teachers and school support staff forcing Boris Johnson’s Tory government to retreat on the re-opening of schools. The NEU backed by Unison cited Section 44 of the Employment Rights Act to demand that primary schools be closed and teaching carried out remotely online to protect the safety of pupils, staff and the wider community. It is […]

NSSN 509: Support education workers in new lockdown

November 3, 2020 in Bulletins

The Prime Minister and his floundering cabinet have finally reacted to daily news of startling rises in the rate of COVID cases in England but once again ordinary people have been left trying to fathom out the exceptions to Lockdown 2. But those who expected to see some kind of common sense will stay disappointed; the aim of Lockdown 2 is to maintain the accumulation of private profits for the Tories’ friends in big business, not to help ordinary workers and their families. This is most clearly seen in the decision to keep open educational establishments despite mounting evidence that […]

485: Support teachers & schools staff fighting Tory June 1 re-opening

May 19, 2020 in Bulletins

They are putting bosses’ profits before the safety of workers, children and their families. At our very successful 2nd NSSN Zoom public meeting last Saturday, teachers […]

413: Teaching unions start indicative ballot on pay & funding

November 13, 2018 in Bulletins

This week, we headline with the consultative ballot by teaching unions. This is from the NEU:- Hands up because enough is enough! Recently, we set the Government six tests for school funding before the Chancellor’s autumn Budget. This was the Government’s opportunity to change course and properly fund the schools our children deserve. Instead, the Government has failed children once again. Our schools are at a breaking point and asking them to use their funds to meet a proportion of the latest teacher’s pay award is the final straw. A one-off payment for ‘little extras’ will do nothing to address […]
