NSSN 560: Workers keep striking back!

November 10, 2021 in Bulletins

The NSSN weekly bulletin continues to report on the growing number of disputes, many of them resulting in victories. Workers are taking action to stop brutal attacks from the employers such as privatisation and outsourcing and the sinister use of ‘fire and rehire’ – including at Weetabix in the East Midlands and Clarks in the South West. Increasingly, workers are striking to get badly needed pay rises after years of wage cuts. Binworkers are on the picket line from Glasgow to Sandwell and Sheffield and busworkers are on strike in Wales and the North East. We are also seeing industrial […]

NSSN 556: Support the October strikes

October 12, 2021 in Bulletins

October has seen a real step change in industrial action as workers fight back against the bosses’ offensive to make us pay for the Covid crisis. As prices rise, strike ballots and action on pay, pensions and jobs are on the increase, with a number winning demands or at least forcing concessions out of the employers. And in the public sector, unions are reporting that their members have voted down the Tory pay deals – effectively pay cuts and are moving to ballots. We call on the unions in the public sector to co-ordinate ballots and action. The NSSN stands […]

NSSN 547: NSSN TUC Rally 2021 – 12pm Sunday Sept 12

August 10, 2021 in Bulletins

At 12pm on Sunday 12th September, the NSSN is organising our annual rally before the start of TUC Congress. Due to Covid, both the TUC and our rally will again be virtual this year. This will be the 12th successive year that we have lobbied the TUC for the fighting programme that is needed by workers. The pandemic has seen workers fight for their lives and increasingly our livelihoods as bosses unleash an offensive to make us pay for the crisis, including through fire and rehire and union-busting while their Tory Government proposes a public sector pay freeze and further […]

NSSN 534: Support the fightback in schools and colleges

May 11, 2021 in Uncategorized

We headline this week’s NSSN bulletin with the growing number of disputes in education. In schools, teaching and support staff are fighting cuts under the guise of restructuring and an increasing number of union reps being victimised. Clearly, management are striking back at NEU reps in particular after the Tory government was pushed back in the New Year over the premature re-opening of schools. But victories are being won. Huddersfield NEU rep and union NEC member Louise Lewis has just been reinstated after four days of strike action and it appears a victory has been won at Beal High School […]

March 30, 2021 in Bulletins

“The NSSN sends our congratulations & solidarity to the Shrewsbury Pickets and their families. We should particularly remember those such as Des Warren, who passed away during this heroic struggle for justice. There should now be a trade union inquiry into the framing of the workers and the cover up. 526: End Violence against Women – fight for the right to protest

March 16, 2021 in Bulletins

This week’s NSSN bulletin comes after the brutal murder of Sarah Everard and the outrageous policing of peaceful vigils and protests, which NSSN supporters attended. The NSSN sends our deepest condolences to Sarah’s family. These horrific events have brought centre stage the issue of violence against women. They have also raised how the Tory government is using Covid rules to attack the right to protest. Before Christmas, police dispersed a workers’ picket at the Unite strike at Optare in Leeds. The union overturned this in the courts. Two of our officers Linda Taaffe NSSN Secretary and NEU and Katrine Williams NSSN vice-Chair […]
