This week’s NSSN bulletin comes after the brutal murder of Sarah Everard and the outrageous policing of peaceful vigils and protests, which NSSN supporters attended. The NSSN sends our deepest condolences to Sarah’s family. These horrific events have brought centre stage the issue of violence against women. Declan Clune RMT was sacked by Bluestar in Hampshire last Friday. Moe Muhsin Manir Unite is in a disciplinary on a gross misconduct charge at the Abellio Walworth garage in South London. The NSSN sends our solidarity and support to the British Gas workers and their union, the GMB after the first action taken against the ‘fire and re-hire’ tactics of Centrica. As the union says, “GMB conducted a strike ballot of 9,000 members in December 2020. An overwhelming 89% voted in favour of industrial action. This vote was after parent company Centrica said it would impose ‘fire and rehire’ cuts to workers’ pay and terms and conditions on pain of dismissal.” We call on all our supporters and the whole trade union movement to continue to build support for the action.
