NSSN 612: Strike wave escalates with November 30th walkout

November 29, 2022 in Bulletins

This Wednesday is yet another significant day of co-ordinated strike action. CWU members in Royal Mail will be taking further action, and for the 3rd time they will be out on the same day as UCU members in higher education. And for the first time, the NEU will be out in 77 Sixth Form Colleges. During December, nurses will be taking action alongside more strikes in Royal Mail and on the railways. Last week, the strike by the EIS union effectively closed down the schools in Scotland. With successful strike votes and ongoing ballots in most areas of the public […]

610: Liverpool dockers win as strike wave spreads to public sector

November 15, 2022 in Bulletins

The NSSN sends our solidarity and congratulations to Unite and its members at Peel Ports in Liverpool, who have secured an inflation-busting pay deal after taking strike action over nearly two months. At the same time, the growing strike wave is spreading to the public sector. Just days after the UCU announced that its members have voted for strike action in higher education, NEU, EIS, PCS and the RCN have all had industrial action ballots voting for action. In addition, FBU members have voted to reject the employers’ pay offer and will be moving to a strike vote. And unions […]

NSSN 609: UCU calls national strike in HE

November 8, 2022 in Bulletins

The NSSN sends solidarity to the UCU as it calls a national strike involving 70,000 of its members in higher education. UCU members have already been taking action in further education. These strikes come as unions in the public sector join the rising strike wave, with other education unions launching industrial action ballots. In addition, PCS will be announcing the result of its industrial action ballot on Thursday, while workers in the NHS are also voting for action, and the FBU are holding a consultative ballot on pay. The NSSN stands with all workers and their unions taking action against […]

NSSN 608: Join this week’s #ToriesOut demonstrations

October 31, 2022 in Bulletins

The NSSN is mobilising for the two demonstrations this week against the Tories, the cost of living crisis and their plans for further union restrictions. New Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who was Boris Johnson’s Chancellor, will also look to make workers and their families pay for the crisis. We face massive austerity and the threat of even more anti-union laws to try and stop us taking action we need to keep a roof over our heads as the cost of living squeeze tightens. The threat of legal action by Royal Mail against action by the CWU is another stark reminder […]

607: Turn TUC lobby Parliament into #ToriesOut demo!

October 24, 2022 in Bulletins

The Tories are imploding. Truss has been forced out, triggering another leadership election. But new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who was Boris Johnson’s Chancellor, will also look to make workers and their families pay for the crisis. We face massive austerity and the threat of even more anti-union laws to try and stop us taking action we need to keep a roof over our heads as the cost of living squeeze tightens. The TUC has organised a lobby of parliament on Wednesday 2nd November. The NSSN believes that this must now be turned into a mass ‘Tories Out’ midweek demonstration, […]

NSSN 606: Tories in crisis – mobilise to kick them all out!

October 18, 2022 in Bulletins

The Tories are hanging by a thread after Truss was forced to sack Kwarteng as Chancellor. She may be in office (for now) but not in power, as new Chancellor Hunt seemingly takes the reins in tandem with the likes of Mordaunt. NHS workers have long memories about Hunt after his time as Health Minister. His first act has been to promise a new austerity offensive. The NSSN held a successful ‘Action Summit’ on Sunday in Brighton, just days before the trade unions meet there for the delayed TUC Congress. NSSN Chair Rob Williams called for Congress to mobilise the […]

NSSN 604: Tory U-Turn shows they can be defeated #StrikeTogether

October 5, 2022 in Bulletins

Last weekend saw mass strikes and big solidarity protests in many towns and cities, including on Sunday at the Tory Party Conference in Birmingham. Last Saturday, the escalating strike wave saw its biggest day of action so far. There is fury that in the midst of the spiralling cost of living crisis, Truss’s Tory Government brings in a giveaway budget to the rich at the expense of workers and their families. But we can chalk up one quick victory with the U-Turn on the abolishing of the 45p tax rate. As with the energy price cap, this retreat is because […]

POSTPONED – 600: Come to NSSN TUC Congress Rally & Lobby this Sunday

September 6, 2022 in Bulletins

The TUC has postponed next week’s TUC Congress following the Queen passing away. It appears that the Congress will now be held in October or November, still in Brighton. Therefore, the NSSN has had to postpone our rally and lobby, that were due to take place this coming Sunday. We will organise it when the TUC Congress is reconvened. The issues that have seen the wave of strikes develop, above all the cost of living crisis, continue to face workers. Therefore we still need to campaign for the unions to strike together. We will keep you informed of the new date for the NSSN TUC Congress […]

NSSN 599: Strike wave escalates with massive CWU action

August 30, 2022 in Bulletins

We send our full support and solidarity to the CWU and its members, who are striking in Royal Mail, British Telecom/Openreach and the Post Office. This Wednesday August 31st, workers in Royal Mail and BT will be striking together – bringing out up to 160,000 in the single biggest day of action in the current strike wave. This is a massive step up in the growing tide of workers’ action against the squeeze in living standards as RPI inflation rises to 12.3% and energy prices spiral still further, while the employers and their Tory government maintain their pay restraint. Railworkers […]
