545: United action against the Tories on public sector pay

July 27, 2021 in Bulletins

Public sector workers, headed by those in the NHS and education, are rightly furious after the Tories finally made their pay announcements. The 3% to be awarded to NHS staff, who have been on the front line risking their lives during Covid, is nowhere near what has been lost over the last decade. That’s why many health workers have been demanding 15%. But to rub salt in to the wounds, this rise must come out of the existing NHS budget. This means brutal cuts on top of all the Tory austerity we’ve already had. It’s even worse for teachers, with […]

But correctly unions have flagged up the dangers of bosses using them to attack trade union agreements that protect workers’ pay, terms and conditions and pensions. The NSSN agreed at our annual conference in June to assist with initiatives in opposing more attacks on workers, on top of the fire and rehire offensive that we are currently seeing. We are looking at a public national event in […]

NSSN 543: Support the Bexley Bin Strike

The NSSN headlines this week’s bulletin with the strike by refuse workers in Bexley Council. This is the third Unite dispute with outsourcing company Serco in the last few weeks, along with traffic wardens in Ealing as well as catering workers at the Royal London hospital in Whitechapel, who are closing in on successful resolution. We were on the Bexley picket on the first day of their two week strike and will continue to support the workers’ action. They are taking confidence from the recent victory of bin workers at Thurrock, another Tory-controlled council. We also call for an end […]

NSSN 541: Support NHS Day of Action this Saturday July 3rd

June 29, 2021 in Bulletins

The NSSN is supporting this Saturday’s NHS Anniversary events, which will see protests and demonstrations organised in many towns and cities for an NHS pay rise, patient safety and an end to privatisation. The day of action has been called by health workers, unions, trades councils and health campaigning organisations such as Keep Our NHS Public, Health Campaigns Together, NHS Workers Say No and NHS Staff Voices. We support the demand for a pay rise of 15% for health and social care workers. They risked their lives in the pandemic and deserve 15% not the 1% Tory pay insult. The NSSN gives our full […]
