Invitation to organising meeting for NSSN lobby
of TUC Conference: An open letter to London trade union reps
04 June
The NSSN will be organising a lobby of
the TUC Conference on September 9th to push for general strike
action against austerity. The NSSN has produced a model letter
to all London trade union reps inviting them to an organising
meeting on July 17th. The model letter can be down loaded
here.
To London Trade Unions
The
National Shop Stewards Network London invites you to a meeting
on
Tuesday
17th July
The
Melton Mowbray Pub (downstairs room)
18
Holborn, EC1N 2LE at 6pm (near Chancery Lane Tube Station).
This will
be a discussion amongst representatives of the trade union
movement in London about the next stages in the fight against
austerity.
We have seen massive public
sector action over the last year against cuts in jobs, services
and pensions. The long victorious battle of the sparks, the
protests of the oil refinery workers at Coryton in Essex, and
now the strike of thousands of London bus drivers, all highlight
the fact that workers in the private sector are also beginning
to move.
The NSSN Conference on 9th
June, attended by almost 500 trade unionists, agreed to campaign
for a 24 hour general strike against austerity.
We have had public sector
action on pensions. We have had one massive TUC demo with
another scheduled for October 20th. Surely it is time to step up
the pressure and call for a national strike of both public and
private sector workers.
The NSSN has called a
rally at the TUC in Brighton on Sunday 9th September
to press this demand, and which will be addressed by Bob Crow
RMT and Mark Serwotka PCS.
We urge all leading trade
unionists and active union reps in London to help make this
rally and lobby as effective as possible. Please try to be at
this organizing meeting, or, at least ensure that that a rep
from your union can come.

Linda Taaffe (Secretary
NSSN)
