October 05 The following is a press release from Southampton Unite

Dear member,

As part of the ongoing dispute with Southampton City Council over imposed cuts to pay and conditions, the Unite stewards committee took a decision on Tuesday 27th September to call ALL members of UNITE out on strike on Thursday 6th October.

You may be aware that Unison and Unite members in Social Care are planning to take action on this day in any case and therefore we plan to have over 1,000 members out on the same day across all council service areas.

Every member of Unite is called upon to take strike action from 00.01 HRS through to Midnight on 6th October.

All members will receive strike and hardship payments equal to that of your net take home pay (after deductions), however for this you will be required to participate in the days picketing and rally activities.

We ask ALL members to attend one of the following pickets:

Shirley Depot from 07.00 HRS

Town Depot from 06.00 HRS

City Depot from 06.00 HRS

Marlands House from 08.00 HRS

One Guildhall Square from 08.00 HRS

You are asked then to attend a joint Unite/Unison Rally in Guildhall Square at 12.30 PM for approximately 1 hour (speakers to be announced)
