Union activists call on leaders to organise pension strikes
Lobby of TUC conference in London - Sunday 11th September - assemble
1.30pm in Friends Meeting House, Euston Rd NW1
3 August
In September, over a thousand trade union shop stewards will be
lobbying the TUC conference in London as the battle grows against the
ConDem Coalition's cuts.
They will assemble for
a rally in Friends Meeting House in Euston to hear union leaders such
as
RMT general secretary
Bob Crow
and
PCS general secretary
Mark Serwotka.
They will be calling on delegates at the TUC conference to support
resolutions to co-ordinate strike action against the government's
attacks on public sector pensions.
It has been estimated
that the monetary effect of the government's changes would mean public
sector workers losing a day's wages every month.
On the June 30th
strikes which saw civil servants take action alongside teachers and
lecturers,
Mr Serwotka appealed to other unions to ballot for action in the
autumn so that "the 750,000 on strike today can become 4 million
later in the year."
The march and lobby is
being organised by the
National Shop Stewards Network (NSSN).
The NSSN was initiated by the RMT in 2006 and is supported by 6
national trade unions. It has held 6 national conferences and a number
of regional events to bring together rank and file union members and
support workers in industrial action.
