Blacklist companies in the dock

Construction companies accused of blacklisting on an industrial scale were in the dock today at the Royal Courts of Justice. The High Court claim being brought by Guney, Clark & Ryan solicitors on behalf of nearly 100 claimants (Steve Acheson & others v Sir Robert McAlpine & others). The full list of defendant companies are: Sir Robert McAlpine, Balfour Beatty, BAM, Carillion, Costain, Laing, Kier Ltd, Skanska, Vinci, Taylor Woodrow and AMEC. Day of action on blacklisting hits City of London

A 7AM start in the freezing cold and driving rain did nothing to dampen the turn out ‘The Cheesegrater’ building site. The protest at the Laing O’Rourke run site was the beginning of Thursday’s TUC National Day of Action on blacklisting in London. Laing – O’Rourke was the natural choice to begin protests given this company is a notorious blacklister. NSSN E-Bulletin 164  “We’re ALL under attack – so let’s strike together in November”  Last Saturday October 12th, I attended a Steering Committee meeting of the NSSN*, the National Shop Stewards Network, at the RMT’s National HQ. The Steering Committee brings together representatives from trade unions right across the public and private sector to discuss how we can support each other’s disputes, develop a network across the movement and provide individual stewards with support.
