Defend Robert O’Donnell, Glasgow UNISON Rep at SECC

I write to highlight an attack on UNISON branch representative, Robert O’Donnell, who has been sacked by the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre. UNISON is supporting Robert in his appeal against dismissal. UNISON believe that Robert, a gardener and UNISON representative, was unfairly sacked by the SECC Management on 25 May. He was dismissed following an alleged unwitnessed incident with his supervisor. Over 1,000 fire-fighters from across the UK gathered in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, for a national demonstration on 9 December, their latest day of strike action over pensions. FBU national executive rep Ricky Matthews was employed by Buckinghamshire Fire Authority. He was sacked for taking part in the last round of strikes. The demonstration was a massive show of support for Ricky Matthews and Bucks FBU members.

RMT confront ISS agency over lockout

RMT members supported by the National Shop Stewards Network go to ISS corporate headquarters in Canary Wharf. ISS has imposed fingerprinting and biometric scanning on their workforce of cleaners on the London Underground. After a lawful ballot for industrial action RMT ISS members have refused to comply with the scanners when clocking on to work. In response ISS have sacked one cleaner and sent others home. The RMT went to ISS HQ to demand answers for this behaviour.

Tubeworker John Reid victimized over February strike (repost)

John Reid, President of the RMT’s London Transport regional council, has been suspended from his work pending investigation following a complaint against him made while he was carrying out his lawful duties on the picket line in the February strike to defend jobs and ticket offices.
