This Friday March 13th, tens of thousands of public sector workers will be taking joint strike action in Northern Ireland. NIPSA, Unite, Unison, GMB and teachers’ union INTO will also be on strike. With transport workers on buses and trains also involved, it will have the feel of a 24 hour general strike. The NSSN sends our full support and solidarity to these workers and their unions. Senior HMRC officials hatch anti-union plot (Statement from PCS website) The most senior civil servants in HM Revenue and Customs have hatched a “deeply disturbing” politicised plot to destabilise our union, it has been revealed. Crane drivers tell HTC “It’s time to pay up!”

Hundreds of crane drivers from the UCATT construction union picketed building sites in London and around the country this morning in a dispute over pay with HTC Plant Limited. Workers had voted 94% in favour of strike action and 94.6% in favour of industrial action short of strike action. The turnout was in excess of 80%. This Friday October 10, workers at Care UK in Doncaster will be taking their 81st day of strike action, reportedly a record in the care sector. Silent vigil for Kevin Campbell: Another construction fatality

Kevin Campbell, 46 from Poplar, in east London was killed on 2nd March on a Docklands Light Railway project in Stratford. Kevin was struck by a piece of machinery that was attached to an excavator. The fatality came in the same month as a worker was killed on the £15bn Cross rail project, also a worker on Balfour Beatty’s Providence tower site in London’s docklands was seriously injured after a crane collapsed. Taken from Reel News Youtube channel Police attend Victoria offices of Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd today as an arrest warrant is served on Cullum McAlpine for human rights violations relating to blacklist scandal. This weekend is 5th anniversary of the Information Commissioners Office raid on the Consulting Association, when files on over 3,214 construction workers and environmental activists were found. Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd. played a key role in setting up the Consulting Association to deny these workers employment, most of whom were simply raising concerns over health and safety.
