NSSN 420: March this Saturday for a General Election to get the Tories out!

January 9, 2019 in Bulletins

The NSSN is supporting this Saturday’s ‘Britain is Broken – General Election Now’. It is vital that the trade union movement mobilises to force out the Tories and fight for a government led by Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnell on the pro-worker anti-austerity Labour manifesto from the 2017 General Election. 414: Tory crisis – TUC & unions mobilise to force general election!

November 20, 2018 in Bulletins

From Linda Taaffe NSSN national secretary:- Emergency General Council of the TUC urgently needed This austerity big business government is hanging by a thread. The Tories are tearing themselves apart. They don’t know which way to turn. Theresa May is weak. Her only strength is the fact that there is no realistic alternative Tory leader.  The ruling class have never been in such an exposed position in our lifetime! After 10 years since the 2007-8 financial crisis workers have suffered endless austerity and there is no end in sight. Even the UN rapporteur has made scathing comments about the levels […]

413: Teaching unions start indicative ballot on pay & funding

November 13, 2018 in Bulletins

This week, we headline with the consultative ballot by teaching unions. This is from the NEU:- Hands up because enough is enough! Recently, we set the Government six tests for school funding before the Chancellor’s autumn Budget. This was the Government’s opportunity to change course and properly fund the schools our children deserve. Instead, the Government has failed children once again. Our schools are at a breaking point and asking them to use their funds to meet a proportion of the latest teacher’s pay award is the final straw. A one-off payment for ‘little extras’ will do nothing to address […]

NSSN 405: POA members take action over prison safety

September 19, 2018 in Bulletins

The National Shop Stewards Network sends solidarity to the POA union whose members took part in protests outside prisons last Friday over the massive safety concerns that the union has for their members and other staff and inmates as a result of Tory cuts. The POA have disgracefully had their democratic right to take industrial action taken from them. The NSSN is proud that they have been a longstanding affiliate of ours and we call on the whole trade union movement to stand with them. The action has forced the Government to enter talks with the union. POA General […]
