NSSN 314: November 5 Libraries, Museums & Galleries demo

November 2, 2016 in Bulletins

It’s the demonstration every Library & Museums campaigner has been calling for and now it’s on. It is supported by PCS, Unite and Unison. Public Libraries and Museums remain the lynchpin of communities, offering access to learning, reading, history, art, information and enjoyment. But since 2010, austerity policies meant that we have lost: 8,000 paid and trained library workers; 343 libraries (600-plus including ones handed to volunteers); and One in five regional museums at least partially closed. We’ve also seen: Libraries’ and museums’ opening hours cut; Budgets, education programmes and mobile/ housebound/specialist services slashed; An escalation in commercialisation and privatisation; […]

NSSN 214: Keep Striking Together for a Pay Rise!

October 15, 2014 in Bulletins

Reject the local government pay proposal Name the date for the next joint pay strike This coming Saturday’s TUC demonstration is an important next step in the struggle to break the ConDems pay freeze. It comes at the end of a week when over half a million health workers and civil servants have been on strike while the lecturers’ strike was banned by the anti-union laws. However, it should have been much bigger but the strike of council workers that was due to take place on Tuesday was called off in light of a new pay proposal from the local […]

201: NSSN rally at TUC Congress:‘Confirm the next pay strikes!’

July 16, 2014 in Bulletins

The tremendous #J10 public sector strike last Thursday has changed the mood music. All of a sudden it is the government desperately re-arranging the deck chairs on its Titanic with its latest re-shuffle. As the NSSN predicted, if the unions give workers a lead, they will respond. Not only that, the action was overwhelmingly popular as all those who have suffered from these cruel cuts were delighted to support someone standing up for them. This is particularly the case as Labour shamefully refused to support the strike. But it was clear on July 10 that workers realise that to win, […]
