In last week’s NSSN e-bulletin, we exposed the step change in the ConDems’ austerity offensive, announced in Osborne’s Autumn Statement. It seems our figure of £35-50billion underestimated the scale of this attack! By last weekend, it was estimated by the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) and the Institute of Fiscal Studies (IFS) that 60% of the cuts are still to be made, with £55billion to come on top of the £45billion that have already been carried out. Over 1,000 fire-fighters from across the UK gathered in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, for a national demonstration on 9 December, their latest day of strike action over pensions. FBU national executive rep Ricky Matthews was employed by Buckinghamshire Fire Authority. He was sacked for taking part in the last round of strikes. The demonstration was a massive show of support for Ricky Matthews and Bucks FBU members.

Over 1,000 fire-fighters from across the UK gathered in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, for a national demonstration on 9 December, their latest day of strike action over pensions.
