NSSN cancels conference to support July 1st demo

As our supporters and affiliates will know, this year’s conference of the National Shop Stewards Network (our 11th) is due to take place in London on Saturday July 1st. Hundreds of trade union and anti-cuts campaigners will be preparing to take part in discussions and debates about the crucial struggles and disputes facing working people. Of course, a prominent issue would be how we organise a mass movement to take on a weak and discredited Tory Government. The sound of establishment figures crashing out of office provided the backdrop to the 10th annual National Shop Stewards Network conference. “In all the tumult, let’s not forget that this week we saw the downfall of a Tory prime minister” said PCS president Janice Godrich to huge applause. Workers are saying “What recovery? We want our share!” Millions of public sector workers are having their pay again pegged to 1% when RPI inflation is nearly 3% and energy prices are up 9%!
