NSSN 288: Get the Tories out! March together on April 16

April 13, 2016 in Bulletins

First it was the U-turn on tax credits, then Personal Independence Payment after Iain Duncan Smith’s resignation and now on top of the division over Europe, Cameron has been shaken by the Panama tax exposé. The Tories really are on the edge! The question is how do we push them over it?! It’s clear that an increasing number of people want to fight and take action alongside the Junior Doctors, teachers and the steelworkers fighting to save their jobs.  Last Saturday, thousands demonstrated against Cameron outside Downing Street, in Sheffield on the PCS demonstration against the closure of BIS offices […]

The officers and steering committee of the National Shop Stewards Network sends May Day greetings to all workers internationally. The origin of May Day is bound up with the struggle for shorter hours and greater leisure time for workers – this remains a major demand of workers’ organisations worldwide. May Day 1890 was celebrated in many European countries. And at the 1893 congress of the Second International, the following statement was carried: The […]

NSSN 189 – Tube Strike back on! Support the RMT

April 22, 2014 in Bulletins

RMT members working on London Underground (LU) will strike on 28-30 April and 5-8 May. This is because talks at Acas with LU have failed to make any progress. In fact LU have reneged on their undertakings made when our strike in February was suspended to allow talks to take place. During this time LU has also tendered for driverless trains – another threat to safety on the tube. After eight weeks of negotiations LU are still saying that every ticket office will close by the end of 2015. When we suspended our strike they undertook to review every station […]

NSSN Conference July 5: “Fight Together for a Pay Rise!”

April 16, 2014 in Bulletins

Workers are saying “What recovery? We want our share!” Millions of public sector workers are having their pay again pegged to 1% when RPI inflation is nearly 3% and energy prices are up 9%! Average household income is already 6% below 2003 levels. NHS workers are not even getting this miserly rise and correctly health unions have attacked ‘divide and rule’ tactics. But the best way to avoid this is to seriously prepare for co-ordinated strike action across the public sector. Unison health conference yesterday passed an emergency motion mandating the union to ballot its members in the NHS for […]
