This report is from a Birmingham NSSN supporter:- Birmingham home care workers are starting 14 days of discontinuous strike action on 9 August in protest at the Labour council’s attempts to create a completely part-time workforce which would mean that many workers would be unable to pay household bills. If the workers don’t accept either 14, 21 or 22.75 hours contracts they will be made compulsorily redundant. NSSN 392: West Midlands firefighters vote for strike action

  From FBU website (29 May) Firefighters in the West Midlands have voted by a margin of 9 to 1 for strike action in a dispute over the imposition of contracts on new entrants into the service. The results of the ballot were released today (29 May) and show a 90% vote for strike action on an 82% turnout. The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) says West Midlands Fire Authority should urgently listen to its firefighters and withdraw the contracts immediately.   NSSN supporters actively supported yesterday’s strike by BFAWU members in McDonald’s restaurants in Manchester, Crayford, Cambridge and Watford. The day started with a midnight walkout in Manchester and ended as workers from all four areas converged on Watford, where there were stoppages at two of the town’s sites.
