This week sees another dispute flaring into action over employers closing final salary/defined benefits pension schemes as BMW car workers start five weeks of strike action at Oxford, Swindon, Hams Hall near Birmingham and Goodwood. Workers at the Atomic Weapons Establishment will have taken 16 days of strikes after voting by 80% in a re-ballot to continue and escalate the action with 8 further days of action into May. NSSN 335: Support 8-day Unite Bromley library strike as ASLEF drivers reject Southern Rail offer again!

  Unite members working in Bromley libraries began the first of 8 days of strike action last Saturday. The long running dispute is in defence of the library service from privatisation. The campaign has already seen off the privateers from Carillion and a proposal to replace permanent staff with volunteers.
