NSSN 334: Join the PCS PayDay protests this Friday

March 28, 2017 in Bulletins

The PCS is organising protests around the country this Friday March 31st on the last payday before the new financial year begins. “The payday protests, which are happening ahead of the publication of the Treasury’s pay guidance for 2017, are your chance to drive home our message that our pay has been eroded for far too long and it’s time to drop the 1% cap and negotiate increases in our pay. Our payday protests will send a powerful message to government that we need and deserve a decent pay rise and will back up our national pay claim to the […]

NSSN 285: Tories split as IDS resigns – joint action to stop the cuts!

March 23, 2016 in Bulletins

Millions of workers would have enjoyed their Friday night as the news filtered through that work and pensions secretary Iain Duncan Smith had resigned from the government because of the planned cuts to Personal Independence Payments (PIP). All those who have suffered from the brutal benefit cuts and sanctions as well as civil service workers who have fought job cuts, office closures and pay freezes will find his ‘redemption’ a bit far-fetched. But this episode has finally confirmed that what is potentially a weak Tory government – only elected by 24% of the electorate – is under huge pressure and […]

284: Education unions must organise against Tory academies plan

March 16, 2016 in Bulletins

Overnight, the Tories have announced plans to put every school in England into academy status. This is an emergency statement from NSSN supporters in the NUT:- The government’s announcement that all schools in England are to become academies is a declaration of war on comprehensive public education and national pay and conditions for teachers and support staff. It exposes the academy project for the wholesale privatisation it is and nothing to do with tailored school improvement. Only last week Ofsted reprimanded seven Multi Academy Trusts for poor performance. The Socialist Party has regularly detailed the higher exclusion rates, poorer employment […]

We encourage everyone to discuss with the BMA in your area the idea of organising local solidarity activities and protests – some are being organised this Saturday – and link up with unions locally, trades councils and campaigning organisations including the Trade Union Co-ordinating Group of unions (TUCG), Unite the Resistance, People’s Assembly, Campaign for Trade Union Freedom, Keep […]

NSSN 270: Support the Junior Doctors’ strikes!

November 25, 2015 in Bulletins

NSSN 270: Support the Junior Doctors’ strikes! The BMA Junior Doctors have voted for strike action in an incredible show of strength that is the perfect answer to the Tories’ (anti) Trade Union Bill. Following a ballot of more than 37,000 junior doctors in England, 98% voted for strikes and 99% for action short of strike action on a 76.2% turnout. The strikes will go ahead on December 1, 8 and 16. The NSSN sends solidarity to the Junior Doctors who are fighting the Tories’ imposition of a new contract. We appeal to all our supporters to support their strikes, […]

NSSN 254: London tubeworkers strike back!

August 4, 2015 in Bulletins

For the second time in a month, London Underground’s four unions and up to 20,000 of their members are preparing to lock-down London in defiance of Tory Mayor Boris Johnson. RMT, Aslef, TSSA and Unite have rejected management’s latest “rehash” of destructive plans for night service, staff restructuring and pay. NSSN steering committee member John Reid, who is on the RMT’s ruling Council of Executives, said, “All four unions are united as London is brought to a standstill. The strike is due to London Underground management’s intransigence over jobs, work-life balance, forced unsocial hours and ripping up agreements.” The NSSN […]
