Sunday’s NSSN rally before the start of TUC Congress in Brighton was a fantastic success. Militant trade unionists from both the leadership of some of the most fighting unions and the rank and file spoke to 250 Congress delegates and union and anti-cuts campaigners. Everyone sent their best wishes to PCS General Secretary Mark Serwotka who was admitted to hospital last week. The Tory Trade Union Bill has completed its journey through the parliamentary process to become law. Disgracefully, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has not organised a single national demonstration against the bill. On April 26th in London, over 5,000 striking junior doctors and their supporters marched on the first day of their latest 2-day strike. The march was joint between the BMA and the NUT, who are balloting over forced academisation along with members of other supporting unions including PCS, FBU, RMT, Unite, Unison, NAPO, POA, GMB, TSSA and many others. Today (February 24), thousands of staff at Further Education colleges in England took strike action on pay. A joint statement by UCU / Unison said, “Lecturers, librarians, technicians, cleaners and caretakers who belong to UNISON and the University and College Union (UCU) are among those taking part in the one-day strike over pay.
