NSSN Bulletin No. 86
NUT votes to continue national action against pensions
NUT conference held over the weekend both expressed an indication of the mood of
delegates to fight but also a frustration around how a leadership can work to
undermine escalating action, which would be needed to develop the fight. The
pensions issue was hot on the table and after much debate it was agreed for
national action but no clarity of dates.
The final day of conference NUT delegates voted overwhelmingly in the section on
the economy of No cuts, as opposed to the acceptance of cuts but a little slower
and tiny bit less of Labour and several leaders of unions who have held back the
union movement by accepting the ideas around a debt that we are expected to pay
for.
Over 150 delegates packed into an emergency meeting over Local association for
national action. Agreements included sending motions to set calendar of action,
lobby of NUT NEC in May and build for conference 16th June. The NSSN fully
supports these actions.
