NSSN Bulletin
No. 83
George Osborne’s Budget is a continuation of the
ConDems’ blatant pro-business anti-working class agenda to force
ordinary people to pay for the bankers' crisis. On one hand, the
50p top rate of income tax is dropped for the rich and
corporation tax is slashed while the minimum wage is frozen for
the youngest and pensioners will have to pay more tax. The end
of national pay bargaining in the public sector is firmly in
their sites. This opens up a seemingly endless pay freeze for
existing workers and drastically reduced pay for new starters.
In the so-called ‘richer’ areas in London and the South East,
workers will be isolated and be themselves vulnerable to attack.
All this on top of what is now effectively a four year pay
freeze.
If any of the trade union leaders had any doubt about the full
character of the onslaught facing the working class and the
trade union movement, it should be dismissed now. The ConDem
cabinet of millionaires banged the table in delight this week as
the last Parliamentary barrier was overcome to their bill with
which they hope to dismantle and wreck the NHS.
Let's use our anger and disgust to rededicate ourselves to
fighting back. The inevitable outrage that will follow the
Budget should be mobilised by the TUC in a national weekend
demonstration against austerity and to defend the NHS and
welfare state as a way of giving a fresh stimulus to the
opposition to this government. Unions like the PCS, NUT, UCU and
Unite in health have overwhelmingly rejected the government's
final offer on pensions. Unison and GMB among others are due to
vote very soon. The NSSN calls on them all to reject and join
together in co-ordinated national strike action before the end
of April. We pledge total support and solidarity to NUT and UCU
members who will be on strike in London next Wednesday March
28th. Get mad but also get even. March together and strike
together against this cabinet of millionaires!
Big thanks to Matt Wrack FBU general secretary for donating
£2000 from his personal campaign fund to the NSSN. We also
appreciate all donations from individuals, union branches,
trades councils etc like £50 from CWU Welsh Valleys this week.
More is of course welcome, and necessary ;). Donate, set up a
